With the ongoing situation in Ukraine, I decided to organize a special Yoga for a Cause event in support of the victims of this armed conflict.
Connect with community with this unique, dynamic, and accessible practice.
This special event will begin with a letter reading by Ukrainian-born Montrealer, Helen Ustimenko (read by Melania Julie ).
This will be followed directly by chanting the universal prayer, Om Sarvesham Svastir Bhavatu, to send health, peace, completeness, and prosperity not only to those affected by the current conflict in Ukraine, but also to those affected by all armed conflicts still happening around the world.
After a moment of reflection and meditation, Angela will lead 60 minutes of Slo Flo vinyasa. With longer warm-ups, gentle posture transitions, an extended cooldown, and plenty of posture variations, this class style is accessible to most folk, regardless of experience level.
Following the physical practice, there will be a live performance of traditional Ukrainian Folk Music by Murmurosi (Мурмуроси). *
$5 per yogi who attends this class will go to Восток SOS a Charitable Foundation that supports the victims of conflict and displaces persons, works to rebuild regions affected by military aggression, and promotes democratic change in Ukraine.
* Murmurosi is a duo comprised of Natalia Telentso and Eli Camilo who sing Ukrainian polyphonic folk songs. Raw, dense harmonies combine with simplicity, perfectly conveying the hardships and prosperities of Ukrainian village life.
